Mark Annis summarizes the tank removal activities

With 26 years experience, Mark Annis Gillette ANCO utilizes its own equipment and professional personnel to provide efficiency, cost-control, and smooth job progression. Their expertise in oil tank removal and disposal allows ANCO to uphold the trust and referrals of customers throughout the area.

Upholding the high standards of the Environmental Protection Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Mark Annis ANCO also ensures 24-hour emergency response for the public’s safety.
Hazardous materials could be located in the most unlikely places such as the Kiddie Kollege Day Care Center in southern New Jersey where one-third of the children tested abnormally high for mercury levels. Their nursery sat on the grounds of a former thermometer factory that had never been appropriately investigated and cleaned.

If the realtor and authorities would have enlisted ANCO’s services, the devastating health violation could have been avoided by cleaning the site to comply with state guidelines and municipal regulations.

SITE REMEDIATION ACTIVITIES

One (1) 550-gallon gasoline UST and was removed then soil remediation activities were immediately authorized. The following provides a summary of remedial activities.
--> Soil Characterization

Soil stratigraphy was noted during tank removal activities. Mark Annis ANCO utilized an adaptation of ASTM D422-63, the Standard Test Method for Particle Size Analysis of Soils to determine soil type and silt content at depth.

--> Waste Characterization Sampling and Analysis

Mark Annis Gillette ANCO collected one composite soil sample, identified as Chemtech order F5198 from within the tank excavation pit and analyzed for waste characterization analytes as required by the disposal facility. The results were used to obtain approval to facilitate soil disposal at Clean Earth of Carteret, Carteret, New Jersey.

--> Remedial Action

On 12/2914 and 12/30/14, a total of 49.03 tons of gasoline-contaminated soils were excavated, transported and properly disposed of at Clean Earth of Carteret, Carteret, New Jersey. The contamination was limited to the immediate vicinity of the tank excavation pit. Neither soil staining nor odor was observed beyond the immediate tank cradle area. The excavation pit measured 12’ (L) x 10’ (W) x 6’ (D). A PID was available on site to screen soils as well as visual and olfactory method used to establish clean zones.
--> Post Excavation Soil Sampling and Analysis

On 12/18/14 a total of four (4) post-excavation soil samples were collected from the tank excavation pit. All soil samples were collected in accordance with N.J. Technical Regulations for Site Remediation (N.J.A.C. 7:26E). Samples were collected via Encore samplers and transported in a cooler to W.A.T.E.R. Works Laboratory in East Orange.

All post-excavation soil samples were collected, maintained, and transported in accordance with standard quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) protocol.

With their innovative techniques and advanced monitoring of progress in the field, Mark Annis ANCO offers the most up-to-date, quality services such as the underground storage tanks that offer an alternative to above ground tanks when New Jersey’s regulated commercial tanks number 80,000.
